NWDA's Commercial & Industrial Waste Strategy

NWDAThe North West Development Agency, together with REWARD undertook a review of its Waste Strategy, with particular reference to the Commercial & Industrial waste stream. The current strategy contains an objective for virtually no increases in waste arisings, presumably to be met by a continued shift in economic structure away from material intensive industries. REWARD prepared waste scenarios using the REEIO and then completed a workshop involving regional waste management professionals, where the model was applied. A subsequent report (Go to NWDA Report) concluded that a standstill in waste arisings would require a four-fold increase in waste minimization efforts by industry. NWDA is now pursuing Landfill Tax funding to improve data, develop scenarios and undertake waste minimization projects.
