Swallows have made the same journey for the last 2,000 years. Whether they continue to do so for the next 2,000 depends on the dynamics of a complex relationship between people and the environment - the 'human story' taking place beneath the swallows' wings.

The life and journey of the swallow offers a natural way into exploring the environmental and development issues that affect people who live along its migration route - a route which parallels the zero degree meridian for part of its length. Focus on Swallows will enable students to learn about other people living along the Greenwich meridian who share the same time as we do, but live in very different cultures and countries.
