Scotland

Introduction:

Scotland has a dynamic economy, and at the same time continues to have low productivity, the highest rate of child poverty in the UK, and the extra challenge of working in the remote highlands and islands. As compared to its population, Scotland has a large overall land area and greater access to natural resources, but there is much wastage and inefficiency in resource use and industry.

Scotland’s new Sustainable Development Strategy recognises the need for a significant shift towards more sustainable consumption and production patterns, and represents a change in Scottish sustainability strategy. It prioritizes reducing the inefficient use of resources, exploring the impact of products and materials across their whole lifecycle, and encouraging people to think about the social and environmental consequences of their purchases.
