Sustainable communities

WWF-UK believes that involving communities and Local Authorities in sustainable development is essential to create the ownership of local actions that will lead to long term change. WWF-UK define community engagement as work that contributes to effective community development. Community development is any practice that results in the development of communities or community activity. We recognise that only by working at a local level can we expect to have any influence on the unsustainable patterns of our lives in the UK.

WWF's work may contribute to the development of a community, however, and we seek the support of community development practitioners to inform our projects.
