Wales
The Ecological Footprint was adopted by the Welsh Assembly Government in March 2001, and to date is the only national Government to use the Ecological Footprint as a headline indicator of progress.
In March 2005 the findings of the Reducing Wales’ Footprint Project was disseminated. Not only did this project measure the ecological Footprint of Wales, but also the two local authority areas of Cardiff and Gwynedd.
The original steering group for the project has now become the ‘Wales Footprint Network’ whose aim is to
- Promote best practice in the use, value and application of the Ecological Footprint and associated resource accounting techniques in Wales.
- Co-ordinate the use, value and application of the Ecological Footprint across Wales through: Science and standards, Policy and applications, Education and communications
- Provide a focal point for all Ecological Footprint practitioners, advocates, communicators and educators within Wales to share information and ideas, and to learn about new and existing initiatives occurring both inside and outside of Wales
- Explore further applications and future analyses.
- Maintain and develop the www.walesfootprint.org website.
