London
Footprint in policy:
The Mayor’s London Sustainable Development Commission adopted Ecological Footprint as a headline indicator for London in April 2004 (reporting annually on CO2 and waste components.) The London Plan acknowledges the impact of London’s Ecological Footprint, especially in relation to energy and waste.
Measuring the Footprint of London:
London’s first Ecological Footprint, City Limits, was published in September 2002 (www.citylimitslondon.com) and was updated by London ReMade: ‘Making London a Sustainable City’ in 2004.
Ecological Budget:
Building on previous work, WWF’s Ecological Budget project will provide London with an updated footprint measurement in March 2006 using the latest datasets and methodology to provide a detailed set of resource accounts. The project will also develop a software tool (REAP) to support decision-making and policy formation using Ecological Budget data.
