Linking with regional strategies
Using the REAP tool, Ecological Budget UK will enable regional decision-makers to build scenarios and begin to answer many key questions over the two years of the project. Whilst WWF is keen to extend the baseline work into all English regions, key pilot projects have been initially established in the North East and West Midlands, and will include workshops and capacity building to take this forward at a regional level.
The regional steering groups and a national steering group, being set up as part of Ecological Budget UK, will act as focal points for discussion and sharing of ideas and knowledge to help develop answers to many of these key questions.
The Ecological Budget programme will benefit all UK regions, with the Mass Balance, Material flow and Footprint data being made available free of charge via the web. The REAP tool, and additional work packages, will be made available in addition to this online data. For the first time this data will be available for every region using the same methodology, enabling regional comparisons to be made.
